Club Kokomo Spirits: A San Diego Rum with Island Vibes

From “Kokomo” to Club Kokomo Spirits

Club Kokomo was founded by Mike Love, co-founder of The Beach Boys and co-writer of the band’s iconic 1988 hit “Kokomo.” The inspiration for the brand came from Love enjoying a mojito with his wife, Jacquelyne, and beginning to play with the words “Kokomo” and “mojito”—eventually creating the name Kokomojito. That idea grew into a spirits brand designed to capture the feeling of escaping to an island paradise.

For Love, the concept of Kokomo is less about a specific destination and more about a state of mind—something that fits naturally with the Southern California lifestyle and his lifelong connection to music, surf, sunshine and the beach.

A San Diego Craft Spirits Story

The San Diego connection is at the heart of Club Kokomo. The company works closely with Geoff Longenecker, a San Diego distiller known for his small-batch approach and commitment to quality. Longenecker founded Seven Caves Spirits, a San Diego craft distillery that specializes in artisan spirits, including rum and gin. Club Kokomo Spirits became a majority owner of Seven Caves, bringing Longenecker into the company as Head of Distillery Operations.

Together, Love and Longenecker have created a lineup that includes artisan-crafted rums and ready-to-drink cocktails, with the spirits produced in San Diego. The current Club Kokomo collection includes offerings such as Artisanal White Rum, Tahitian Vanilla Rum and Barrel Finished Rum.

Club Kokomo Spirits at Tiki Oasis 2026

Club Kokomo Spirits and Seven Caves Spirits will be bringing those island vibes to Tiki Oasis 2026, taking place August 5–9 at the Town & Country Resort in San Diego.

The weekend will feature several opportunities to experience the brands. Club Kokomo and Seven Caves will be featured in two Tropical Tastings on Saturday, giving attendees a chance to sample a selection of rum and spirits.

Club Kokomo will also be connected to two seminars during the event, including “Tiki Arrival” on Friday and Saturday’s “Pop Surf Culture: Music, Design, Film and Fashion from the Bohemian Surf Era.” The latter is co-sponsored by Club Kokomo Spirits and Mello Exotica.

And for cocktail enthusiasts, Sunday brings one more San Diego connection: Geoff Longenecker will compete in the 2026 Tiki Oasis San Diego Bartender Battle, facing some of the city’s top bartenders in a head-to-head tropical cocktail competition.
