Get ready to put the pedal to the metal! Universal Studios Hollywood is taking its thrill-ride lineup to a whole new level with the opening of Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, the park’s first outdoor, high-speed roller coaster.
Opening Wednesday, September 16, 2026, the new coaster brings the high-octane world of the Fast & Furious franchise to life with speed, twists, launches, drifting vehicles, and some incredible views of Los Angeles.
And if you love roller coasters, this one sounds like it’s going to be a big deal.
A Roller Coaster Built for Speed
Located on the Upper Lot, Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift reaches speeds of up to 72 mph and features approximately 4,100 feet of track. Riders will experience up to 3.6 Gs while racing through four launches, an inverted dive loop, pretzel loop, inverted stall, and plenty of twists and turns.
One of the most unique elements is the coaster's ability to rotate and drift 360 degrees independently while moving along the track. That means your experience can change depending on which ride vehicle you choose.
The coaster's four vehicles are inspired by iconic cars from the films:
Dodge Charger
Mazda RX-7
Nissan Skyline GT-R
Toyota Supra
Each vehicle also has its own independent audio system featuring engine sounds and effects designed specifically for that car.

The Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift Experience Starts Before the Ride
The attraction isn't just about the coaster. The queue takes guests into a Fast & Furious-inspired environment filled with recreated props from the films.
Among the displays are the Vault Truck from Fast Five, Letty's motorcycle from F9, Dom Toretto's 2010 Dodge Charger SRT8, the rolling bomb from Fast X, and other pieces inspired by the franchise's famous stunts.
Some displays will include QR codes that allow guests to access additional behind-the-scenes information through Universal's Backlot Club.
Even the queue has a pretty impressive feature: a section of the coaster track will pass through a transparent enclosure running through the queue, giving waiting guests a preview of the action.

Don't Forget to Look Up
One of the coolest things about this coaster may be its location.
Universal Creative incorporated the natural hillside terrain into the attraction, using the landscape as part of the coaster's design. As the ride climbs and twists through the hills, riders will get panoramic views of the San Fernando Valley, Universal's movie studio and the theme park.
The entrance is designed to resemble a massive red-brick garage, with two stationary replica cars outside providing the perfect photo opportunity before heading into the queue.
Inside, a large mural by renowned artist Tristan Eaton depicts the iconic street-racing finale from the original 2001 film, The Fast and the Furious. Another Eaton mural celebrates the franchise inside the queue.
Plan Ahead: Lockers Are Required
There is one important thing to know before you ride.
Because of the coaster's speed and ride dynamics, all loose belongings must be stored in complimentary lockers located within the queue. Guests will also pass through metal detection before reaching the ride platform.
That means your phone, bags and other loose items won't be coming along for the ride.

Celebrating 25 Years of Fast & Furious
The new attraction arrives as the Fast & Furious franchise celebrates its 25th anniversary. With 11 films already part of the franchise and another movie, Fast Forever, scheduled for theaters in March 2028, the timing couldn't be better for Universal Studios Hollywood to bring the series to the coaster world.
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift joins an already impressive lineup of movie- and entertainment-inspired attractions at Universal Studios Hollywood, including SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Jurassic World—The Ride, The Simpsons Ride, Revenge of the Mummy, Transformers: The Ride-3D, Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash, and the iconic Studio Tour.
For fans of the Fast & Furious movies—and anyone who loves a serious adrenaline rush—September 16 can't come soon enough.
