Grape Night in San Diego

I had the pleasure of attending Grape Night’s event in San Diego last night. This multi-decade tasting event featured Spring Mountain Vineyard. Grape Night brings fantastic wineries directly to San Diego, showcasing exclusive wines, and sharing inside information directly from the vineyard.

Grape Night is partnering with big names in the wine industry and bringing them directly to San Diego. Already a highly successful model in Orange County, they are “Taking the Tasting Room out of the Tasting Room”. For their first event in San Diego, they chose the Huntress Steakhouse as their location. The entire menu was open for guests to order from while we experienced the wine tasting. This event is an excellent opportunity to not only explore wines that would require pre-bookings or wine memberships, but it also allows participants to explore San Diego restaurants.

Last night, the event included five tastings. We started with an Estate Chardonnay from 2023, then a Cabernet Sauvignon from 1988, followed by the Cabernet Sauvignon from 1993, then the Cabernet Sauvignon from 2005, lastly, we ended with the Cabernet Sauvignon from 2021. This multi-decade event was an eye-opening experience led by Spring Mountain Vineyard’s knowledgeable Estate Director Garrett Hales.

Garrett led the group on a tasting journey through the history of Spring Mountain Vineyard. The expansive vineyard covers the equivalent size of Central Park, with sweeping elevations contributing to the variations in altitude available for grape growing. The 1988 Cabernet Sauvignon has aged better than I could have imagined. By Far, the oldest wine I’ve had the pleasure of tasting and hands down my favorite of the night. We discussed the exclusivity of the tasting; the same tasting on property in Napa Valley would have the price tag of $375 per person and Grape Night was able to bring the experience directly to San Diego for $60 per person. What a tremendous value and excellent opportunity for wine lovers!

If you want to stay informed on future Grape Night events, be sure to join their free membership. In addition to access to the socials the membership has a tasting dashboard to help you build your own flavor profile. Premium memberships also include 20% discounts, complimentary tastings at partnered vineyards, and early access to events. This is the perfect time to join the ground level of this growing wine community in San Diego!
