The San Diego County Fair always serves up some fun experiences and 2025 is no different. This year you can find two San Diego Fair Speakeasies hidden throughout the fairgrounds. I have the scoop on how you get in!

San Diego Fair Speakeasies

Destination Unknown is in the Grandstand East area. Look for disco balls as a marker. Head to the ticket counter with the Destination Unknown sign. You'll see a check-in/reservation window. Do not worry if you don't have a reservation, you can still get in!

They will check your ID and give you a wristband along with the password to get into the speakeasy. From there, you will take an elevator and walk-through the breezeway, then enter through a bamboo and bubble path into the speakeasy. Here you'll find Tiki vibes, great views, and ample space. The space is separated into areas – one is a covered bar area with rows of tables the other area is a patio that overlooks the fairgrounds and has excellent conversational seating.

The best value for your money will be the fish bowls and the margarita trees. The margarita trees feature small Patron bottles filled with margaritas poised throughout the gold frame. This deal serves up four drinks for the price of three. Be sure to take your crew with you to the speakeasy to help you enjoy!

Next, the Hair of the Dog pop-up is located at the “arena entrance”. This is the first stop on the parking tram if you're parked in the auxiliary dirt lots. Check-in at the tent directly past the gate, once they have checked your ID they will give you the wristband and the password to get into the pop-up.

From there, you will enter the building across the plaza and go up the stairs to enter this fun dog theme speakeasy. The space is a little bit smaller than the first pop-up, but it is indoors and has air conditioning! This is an absolute plus! The space is decorated with gilded puppy paintings, plush seats, and posh finishes. This is where you will want to hang out if you need a break from the heat and a quiet place to talk.

Both locations had tasty drinks, but I think that the drinks at the Hair the Dog were a little bit more fun and fanciful.

I never tried a speakeasy before this year, I always worried it was too difficult to get into the San Diego Fair speakeasies or that I needed to have a reservation but don't let that scare you away! We were able to walk right into both locations without any wait. The service was quick, and it was a nice way to relax at the fair. Check out my Instagram Reel for a closer look!
